Hello everyone. Daniel here with another episode of our English class.  I hope that you are enjoying your week.  I’m getting ready to go away for a week to a place called Kutna Hora to teach an intensive English course.  Kutna Hora is interesting because of it’s rich history. It is very famous for it’s old silver mines, and hundreds of years ago money for all over Europe was made here.  Another attraction is the “Bone Church”. Hundreds of  years ago, it was necessary to destroy a cemetary, which was near this church. Instead of destroying all the skeletons there, they dug them up, took the bones and skulls into the church, and from them built altars, and sculptures.  There are literally thousands upon thousands of skulls, placed into intricate patterns, and piled up in small hills.  It is most certainly a morbid place, but it definately draws in the tourists!  Anyway, lets get on with our class.  When we left off last time,  Old Major  had just finished his singing, and the animals had gone to sleep. Enjoy the story, and I’ll be with you shortly.  Animal Farm by George Orwell Continued

Hello Class, this is Daniel for Sound of Hope radio, here in the Czech Republic.  I hope you all had  a nice week.  I was in the wonderful country of Switzerland for a few days with my family.  It is an extremely clean, and beautiful country.  I didn’t see any litter on the streets, at all.  Everywhere are picturesque green pastures and  rolling hills of farmland.  I saw many happy looking all white cows, and brown ones too.  I thought it was interesting that in the shopping mall , there were great athletic facilities.  Badmitton courts, and squash courts, table tennis, two great swimming pools, and so on, and so on.  So a woman could do her shopping while her husband has a game of squash with his son, or badmitton with his daughter.  Anyway, last week when we left off, Old Major was still giving his speech about how Man is the enemy, and how the answer to their problems is rebellion.  Lets get back to his speech, and remember, after the story I will teach you some grammar, and then some phrases.  Enjoy the story!    Animal Farm Continued

IN FLOOR SPEECH, WOLF RAILS ABOUT ABUSES IN CHINA

China of today is worse than the China of yesterday, or of last year, or
of the last decade.’

Washington , D.C. – Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) today delivered the
following statement on the floor of the House today addressing multiple
concerns about
China , the products it produces and its poor record on human
rights:

“Imagine a country where factory workers have no workplace
safety, labor or environmental protections and are required to work 80
hour-weeks for no more than $110 per month to produce goods for export.

Animal Farm – by George Orwell

Part Three

Good evening class, this is Daniel for Sound of Hope Radio , here in the Czech Republic.  I’m recording in our outdoor studio, as usual.  You may notice that there are less birds chirping than normally. This is because it is nighttime, and the birds are sleeping with their families, re-covering their strength for tomorrow’s labour.  I’m recording this class at night because my family and I are travelling to Switzerland tomorrow for a brief holiday.  I’m outside on the patio here.  I admire Czech houses because they are built very thoughtfully.  For example many houses use a system of pipes and gutters to collect all rain water and melted snow, and transport it to underground storage tanks.  This water is then used for gardening, and other needs.  If I had known about this system when I lived in America, I would have asked my family to install it .  The previous sentence is a 3rd Conditional, which you may remember from last week’s lesson.  In todays lesson we will talk about mixed conditionals.  But first, let’s get on with our story Animal Farm, by George Orwell.  Last week we left off with Old Major trying to persuade the animals that Man is their enemy.  So anyway, enjoy the story, and I’ll be with you again shortly…Bye Bye!! Animal Farm Continued …………

Animal Farm – by George Orwell

Part Two

Hello Class, It’s Daniel from Sound of Hope Radio , here in the Czech Republic.  It’s summertime here, and the weather is beautiful.  The countryside is full of vineyards and farms, and small forests,  and everywhere people are rolling by on their bicycles smiling and saying “Dobry Den” which is a polite greeting in Czech which means “Good day”.  I have just finished a nice week of teaching, and now I am recording this lesson for you, here in our outdoor studio.Last week the animals were just gathering together in the barn to hear Old Major’s speech about the dream he had had the night before.  Remember “Had had” is the Past Perfect tense which we use when we speak about an action in the past and we want to talk about what happened before that time.  Today we will use the Past Perfect again, as a part of third conditionals. However first we must get on with our story Animal Farm, by George Orwell!  So sit back and relax and let yourself dissapear into  this wondeful tale, and I will be with you again after the reading to go over some grammar and supply you with some new phrases. So for now “Ahoj” which means goodbye in Czech.                                                 Animal Farm Continued
